Before there were shoes ...

Some of you may not know that this blog didn't always have shoes. It had no theme. It had no direction. It was, well, blah!

For some reason, I've been reflecting about how this blog started, the path it has followed, and where it is now. I've decided I need a fresh perspective. And what better way to gain that than to look back at the beginning and appreciate how far this blog has come? Over the next few posts, I'm going to take you on a walk in this blog's shoes.

When I first started this blog, it was purely personal. I never thought anyone would actually read it. It was a diary of sorts where I could write down all my thoughts and feelings about my writing journey. It was bare of shoes and filled with emotion. Nothing wrong with that. At least not back then. It served its purpose at the time, but times changed. A few fellow writers started following and commenting. It was no longer personal. It was public. So, the blog had to change. Thus the shoe theme was born.

What about you? How did your blog start out? And what did it mean to you?

I just wanted to get my thoughts out. I guess I'm still doing that. It's so nice to have dialogue about them. I always suspected I wasn't the only one to think about such things...

I started my blog to meet other writers and people and to just basically share my journey with others.

My blog started out as a place just for me...and in some ways it still is. Everytime I worry too much about making it for other people, I kind of freeze up!

Ditto what Wendy said - that and I needed a release for pent up words. :)

I started my current blog with a writing focus, in hopes that I would be able to connect with others interested in the creative process and general shop talk.

Blah?? Nothing from you is ever blah! I do understand what you're saying though. My blog started out as a: I don't really know what I'm doing here, kinda thing. Hmmm, it hasn't changed that much either. Ha! But I want to have pages and especially an agent/publisher page. Trying to find more time for that. I was terribly frightened when I first started. My crit partner Beth made me do it. But I'm glad I did. (((hugs)))

I love your theme, Susan, and great idea to reflect back on your early start.

I started blogging about photography for teens. The blog ended up evolving to what it is today when I realized mostly writers were reading the blog. Whenever I blogged about writing, I'd get comments. I'm like a psychology experience. Give me a reward, and I'll perform how you want me to. :)

I didn't really know what I was doing when I started blogging and there are days when I still feel like that.

Like laurel, I started my blog with the goal of connecting with other writers--like you! :-)

Same with me, I started blogging to connect and have a professional presence. But I got so much more out of it then I ever expected!

My blog started out a way to keep track of authors I love and learn about the publishing business. Now it's more about social interaction and writing tips. :)

My blog started as me talking to myself, giving updates on my WIPs. I was boring myself, and only posted sporadically. Then I realized it's a SOCIAL NETWORK thing, and I should follow other blogs. :) Nice perspective, with the shoes!! I love it. Very unique.

I had no idea about building a platform or professional presence when I started blogging. I just wanted to connect with other writers and get some feedback on what I'd been working on.

As I became acquainted with how blogging actually works, and ventured into commenting on other's blogs, it was like a whole new world opened up! You were one of the first people I met--someone who actually visited my blog! :)

I guess now I'm giving more thought to how my blog represents me--and my novels. I know I don't have the stamina to step up my pace, but I'm more concerned about quality content now (though that might not show in today's post, lol)

I'm still trying to figure out what my blog is and what it is morphing into..... Hope to get it someday. :O)

Hi, Susan. My blog has definitely evolved over time, and continues to do so. It started, and I guess continues, as a place to get my thoughts out about the tough road writers travel and how my faith journey affects that.

Blogging can be difficult, and I think it's great to step back and assess things from time to time.

Sadly, my blog started because I needed a fiction platform. But, thankfully, I found a great community of writers and learned the real basis of a platform. Looking forward to your future posts~!

I started mine as a cross between a writing diary and a social network. I wanted to think publicly about the craft of writing and have a dialogue about it with other smart people. Needless to say, I found them.

Just last night, I was thinking about the evolution of my blog. It's funny how your original reason for writing can change so much.

I've told you before, you are my blogging idol, Susan! ;o) You are never blah!

My blog...well, I'd have to say I'm still very much a work in progress. I started my blog after taking a writing seminar where I was told, "If you want to be a successful writer, you have to have a blog." So I made a blog.

I write primarily about the more humorous & thought-provoking aspects of life parenting my teens. And I've met so many great people through my blog (like you!). But just as you've already experienced, I can feel some blog evolution coming on for 2012!
