You Light Up My Life!

This shoe lights up. And so does my phone. When I have a new email, a flashing red light appears in the corner of my phone. I used to look forward to seeing this light because I hoped it would be a response to one of my e-queries. On more than one occasion, this light saved me from the typical refresh-every-five-seconds syndrome so many writers suffer from. Since I stopped querying three months ago, I now look forward to seeing the light because I hope it is a comment from one of my blogger friends. Every time it is, I smile. Your comments bring me joy, and for that, I want to say thank you! Is it just me, or does anyone else love the comments? I also want to thank you for participating in the Mooch Mcgee Slumpbuster Challenge. Mooch's story is now complete. Well, sort of. The ending is rushed and not great, but it is finished. I know you are sick of hearing about Mooch, so I promise this is the last time I will mention him. This is also the last day he'll remain in my sidebar. So, if you want to read his story, click on him today because he'll be gone tomorrow. He will be missed, but sometimes, it's just time to say good-bye. So farewell, Mooch. It's been nice knowing you! Again, thank you all for being such great bloggers!

I love getting comments too! Great blog topic and cute shoes.

My husband jokes that I miss dating. I certainly don't miss being single (which I was until 35!) but I did a lot of online dating and I do miss the flirtatious emails. I think the Comments have sort of replaced that for me. Yay, I'm popular! :)

Comments make me totally happy as well. It's always nice to know that you're not writing into the ether--people are actually reading it. :)

I like getting comments because it reaffirms to me that I'm becoming part of a community.

Poor Mooch. Maybe you should develop his story into a publishable work and query it.

The story had such potential. I'm sorry we never really got to finish it.

Here's another light for you! But why aren't you querying anymore?

I love getting comments too! Mine all go to my email and I can usually tell when I'm getting them as the number of my emails goes up! That's so funny we keep blogging about the same things! Although, I think it's fairly common since we're all thinking about the same issues and dealing with similar problems!

Quixotic,
Comments are the best!

Corey,
Nice comparison. It is a lot like online dating, isn't it?

Fiction Groupie,
It does feel good to know people are actually reading what you are saying. I blogged for an entire month and had a total of three comments. Of course, I had no idea what I was doing back then. :)

Novice,
Yeah, poor Mooch. You probably added the most sentences. They were stellar sentences, too, might I add!

Stephanie,
Thanks for the light! I stopped querying because after getting two rejections on partials, I decided I needed to work on my ms a little more before querying again. So, really, I didn't exactly stop querying. I just took a little break! :)

Jody,
That is true. I've read a lot of blogs that are very similar. It's because we've all got the same things on our minds.

Susan, where do you find this stuff? That is So COOL!!!! And yes, girl, you're not alone. I just love the comment thing too! lol

I love comments too. Since my work is pretty solitary, the online interaction through blogs keep me sane.

Stephanie McGee said...

Aww, thanks!

I get happy when I get a comment too, although I don't get as many as you and nothing lights up. Still...

I'll miss Mooch. Looking forward to Mooch - Part 2, though. :)

Comments are definitely addicting. When I'm not getting them I feel a little lost. I don't like feeling lost. :(

The photos you add with your posts are always so intriguing. These light up shoes are fantastic.

Getting comments is like getting a reward. It means so much when someone takes the time to write a little something. Like a kid I smile everytime I read one. As writers I think we need affirmation that someone likes what we wrote. It is personal satisfaction.

I enjoy getting comments, too! Other writers and blogging friends are such a great support group. Have a great day :D

I so love getting comments. I also love it when people join to follow my blog. I feel like my list of blogosphere friends and fellow writer friends is growing, and I love that group!

Love the shoes. It reminds me of 3-D Lite Brite.

Amy,
Your post about that baby's picture being used for an adoption scam really freaked me out! There are some crazy people out there, aren't there?

Eileen,
I know what you mean. Some days, it's the only interaction outside of my family that I get.

Novice,
You are so welcome!

Struggling Writer,
Hmm...a part 2. Not a bad idea! But I promised I'd never mention Mooch again. Don't tempt me like that!

Amber,
I feel lost without the comments, too. That's why I'm so grateful for them.

Rae,
It is like getting an award, isn't it? Thanks for rewarding me on almost a daily basis! :)

Cindy,
Support is the key. When someone leaves a comment on your post, you feel instantly supported, don't you?

Heather,
I really have to check out this 3-D Lite Brite. The regular Lite Brite was one of my favorite toys as a kid. By the way, my post tomorrow will be about followers. We all love them, too, don't we?

Yes! I am addicted to blog comments. And e-mail. And Facebook. And...

Thank you.

What is it about stalking the phone and the mail whenever we've submitted something? Especially when I know how long it usually takes to respond? Sigh...

I love blog comments too. They make my day!

Anna C. Morrison said...

I love blog comments just like everyone else. Thank you for all of yours! And I love the light-up shoe! Rad!

People are the most wonderful of all things created. Thanks for being a wonderful friend. :D

I guess I better read about Mooch before he's gone.

Comments are the way I usually gauge how I'm doing with my blog. When I don't get comments I figure I wrote a crappy blog entry. That's not necessarily the case, but that's how I feel.

Susan R. Mills said...

Janna,
I prefer to call it a well thought out hobby, not an addiction!

Jill,
The stalking! It never ends! But it's what we do.

Anna,
I enjoy your blog and look forward to commenting on it. No need to thank me!

Danyelle,
I couldn't have said it better myself!

Kathy,
You shouldn't feel that way. I think it's more about timing than anything else!

I LOVE comments, too! Who doesn't??

I often get a little sad when I check my email and there are no new comments to my latest post. And now that I almost always get double digits, it's a bit of a bummer when I don't.

I'm so glad you found me! What a fun blog you have! I LOVE the shoes... I used to study them intensively in college. Now I just love to wear them! I wish I had a light-up phone... where might I find one these days? It'd be even cooler if it looked like a shoe! :)

Glynis Peters said...

I tried my blog with no comments, I lasted 2 days as I felt unloved!
Bye bye Mooch.

Susan R. Mills said...

Karen,
I know exactly what you're saying. I don't like being sad either! :)

Jenheadjen,
I'm glad I found you, too! I read a few of your posts, and I love your blog! Look forward to getting to know you better.

Glynis,
Yes, bye bye Mooch! At least now you know that you need the comments, right?

I don't know Mooch, but I do like comments too. Thanks for posting on my blog and wanted to ask you if you stopped your query letters because you got good news?

Cool shoe! Mooch?

Mrs. Major said...

Absolutely I love the comments. And, thank you so much for always stopping by. You'll have a break from me in a few days. Vacation!

I'm sorry I missed Mooch. I came in late in the deal and couldn't keep up. Next time.

I'm so glad I'm not the only person who gets a little psyched about comments. It's nice to know that someone out there is actually, you know, READING. :)

Susan R. Mills said...

Gutsy,
I guess you would say both. I had two partials rejected with feedback. So, I'm taking the agents' advice and rewriting before submitting again.

Wends Place,
Mooch was a penguin with shoes that we collectively wrote a story about. He's gone now, though. :(

Jennifer,
I hope you have a great vacation, but I'll miss you!

Lesllie,
Thanks for stopping by! And thanks for the compliments!

Carrie,
Yeah, it sounds like everyone gets a little excited about comments!
