New Dangers For Writers Everywhere!

Today is Wednesday's Websites day here, and boy, do I have an important one for you. Writing... normally considered a safe profession, right? Well, according to CBS, we are all in danger! Check it out here. Yeah, apparently, writing is just as dangerous as fighting fires. So, next time you put that laptop on your lap (isn't that where it's supposed to go?), think again. You might be putting yourself in some serious danger of Toasted Skin Syndrome. First, it was microwave popcorn that was bad for you (this made me sad). Now, laptops are bad for you? Seriously, what will be next? What will be left for us writers? Okay, I'll survive without the popcorn, and I can put a pillow between my legs and the laptop. I'll quit writing, though, if they tell me coffee is bad for me. Oh, wait... they already have, and I'm still alive. Any funny warnings you've heard of lately?

It is true though. My laptop gets too hot for the lap. Fortunately I'm don't like to use it, anyway. My kids use it. It's too slow (as they complain often) and drives me nuts. Yep, definitely time for a new one. Maybe one with a fridgerated bottom. :D

My brother the fireman might disagree ;) That's crazy. And I like my hot laptop...keeps my legs nice and toasty!

I don't believe it for a second...although I have to admit that I don't generally put my laptop on my lap. I'd keep an eye out for a special laptop "skirt" which will prevent said burns--oh wait! They already make those too. :D

I have heard of this before. :) I doubt it will keep anyone from writing though!

Don't tell my husband this or I'll never get a laptop.

I always got too warm with mine in my lap so one day, since I always be sittin' in my Lazyboy, I went out to the garage and cut me a board to go across the arms and make me a desk. Now I have to cover up with a quilt because I git cold! The trouble is, my kids like it so much I always have to chase 'em outa my chair sos I can get some work done! :)

Sorry about the grammar but I is listenin' to "Cold Sassy Tree" which is set in Georgia in 1906. Guess its a makin' me talk funny! :)

There's a warning for ya, this book should say, "Danger, listening to this here book will spoil all the good learnin' you got when you was a kid" :)

Everything is dangerous for us. I still eat lots of butter and will keep writing.

Wow. So, I'll add my laptop to my mental list of things that could be very bad for me, take a deep breath, and move on. While I trust they aren't making this up, I don't use my laptop on my legs often enough to care. Now, on to better thoughts. Puppies!

I love how they changed their minds about red wine...:)

I keep my laptop on a chill pad with a fan to keep it cool. You really shouldn't put your laptop directly on your lap anyway....says my computer guy. The laptop cannot properly ventilate itself and can overheat and ruin the computer! That is more my concern!! LOL!!

But I love my lappy. I'll just have to take the chance. =)

I guess that's just my way of suffering for my art. I do what I gotta do.

It might be easier to ask what ISN'T considered bad for us anymore. It's a miracle people survived at all before now, considering how many things are suddenly "bad" for us. :-)

This is too funny! I don't have a lap top, but do have a netbook. It gets warm, but not singe-worthy. LOL Maybe instead of frying myself, I'm just gently toasting. Hey! I might get a tan yet! ;)

I did have a laptop that got super hot, but we got rid of it a while back. So I think I'm good!

My laptop gets ridiculously hot so I have it on a stand but even without a stand I'd risk the lap burn to write.

Ack! My laptop has a hobby of over heating. Good thing I have a plastic lap shelf. For now that will have to do.

Definitely going to start pulling out my lap desk more often! :D

Wow! Well...I have a pillow lap desk I set mine on so hopefully that'll keep me safe!

Oh man! Everything is bad for you! I like Lynda's comments. Living is dangerous!

I write at my desk. I had no idea I was saving myself from toasted skin syndrome. :)

When the weather is hot, it gets uncomfortable with the laptop, but when it gets cool, that warmth is very comforting. Toasted skin syndrome, what will be next?!

I read about that one! So funny!

Don't forget cell phones! Even though the radiation coming off is minimal compared to other things.

Thanks for the laugh, Susan!

Oh jeez. Well I have one of those lap pads between me and my laptop, so I think I'll be okay ;o) See, I heard coffee was actually good for you! LOL

Whoa! That's so weird. It's a good thing I always have a blanket in between.
