For those of you who are new to my blog, or are visiting for the first time this week, I'm partially unplugging this week. This means no new shoe pictures and short simple posts consisting of only one question.
Today's question is: What do you write? And why? (Okay, that's two questions, but it's my blog, and I'm entitled to break the rules if I want to.)
I write, as most of you know, young adult fiction. I chose this genre because it takes me back to that time in my life. It's not that I want to go back to being a teenager because we all know that being a teenager isn't all it's cracked up to be. But there is something to be said for the newness of life experiences during those years. There are so many firsts, and firsts (good or bad) are exciting. Do you think I'm having a mid-life crisis? :)

I'm Hanging Up My Shoes! Day 4

For the record it is actually three questions and I am only going to answer the third :) No, you aren't having a mid-life crisis. I think it is called reality. We all wish we could be young and do it all over again. The BIG question is, would we do it the same way again? I would change things for sure. Instead of going to college to be a nurse, I would major in journalism. Too bad it took me so long to grow up and figure out what I wanted to be.
I don't know if I fit into one genre because I've had so many different ideas that have been so completely different.
My current WIP is technically women's fiction, as is the next novel I'll be writing, too. So maybe that's my genre now. Maybe.

I write women's fiction, contemporary stories that are usually set in the South. I write it because it's the genre that most interests me. And I get to have fun with a lot of literary stuff!
No girl! You are not having a mid life crisis! lol. I write inspirational stories. I used to say Christian/Inspiratinal fiction, but nowadays, I just want to be classified as someone who just tells a human story and I don't know that I just want to do one genre. Is that crazy?! I too, have a YA that I would like to write. I started wrting it when I was in high school and still have it so I want to rewrite it. It was my first almost complete novel!!! I think that I should finish it! :o)

As you know I've written YA and an adult contemporary romance. Right now I'm deciding which of those two I want to do for my third attempt.
And no, you're not having a midlife crisis. I agree that writing YA allows you to experience the newness of the big things again. Or, maybe I'm just having a crisis along with you.
I'm currently writing romance. Why? That's a really good question. :)

I'm writing contemporary women's fiction (possibly chick-lit, although I think I'm grossly under-referencing shoes at this point, perhaps you could help!). I write it because I love to encourage women through laughter.
I write contemporary inspirational romances. Why? Because love is one of the greatest gifts God gave us and I love celebrating it!
I write YA because I fell in love with writing as a kid, but I'm still like reading literary and women's fiction. Two things I would love to be able to write.
I think it's natural, what you describe there.
I don't want to go back to the teenage years for firsts, but it would be nice to go back to a time when my biggest responsibility was doing homework. Also it would be nice to not have to wipe anybody's bum anymore.
I write YA because I have the sense of humor of a 15 year old. ;)
Women's Fiction and the honest answer is I'm the youngest of four girls, I have three daughters, a mother and a mother-in-law and two sister-in-laws...I have rich friendships with women, have led Bible studies and mom's groups and I absolutely adore women. They are "what I know."

I write MG and YA. I'm not really sure why. I think maybe it's because I tried to write women's fiction and I couldn't. My writing voice is too young :) I love writing MG though. I can do a lot of fun things with it that I couldn't do with adult lit.
I write young adult. I think it's because I've loved reading for about I've been reading. So, since it's what I love, that's where my ideas like to live.
I hope your not mid-life-ing already.... you're way too young! :O)

It's encouraging to know that we can have a slight breakdown among friends and feel at home.
I love stories that are relative to the real struggles that women are facing both openly and privately. You can meet someone and never really know them- that drives me wild! I write Contemporary Women's Fiction.
I love shoes by the way, so I'm sure I will be hanging around.

I write YA fantasy. But my current WiP is a paranormal. I've written some romance and some poetry.
YA is a fun world to return to. Its conflict, drama, firsts, fast paced, and usually some great sarcasm and humor. Why wouldn't we want to write and read it?

YA and literary fiction.
YA because I think I'm still in that frame of mind sometimes and it's easier to go with the flow than against the grain.
I'm trying out literary fiction and it's working out so far! I never thought I'd write books for adults but it's actually a little refreshing to step into the mind of one! lol.
Hmm... I guess you could call mine memoir, except the way it's been going it feels more like a dull history book, so maybe I'm writing educational texts.
I write chick lit. Which apparently isn't IN anymore and all the agents that I've been reading say that very few agents will even take chick lit unless it's excellent. This makes me nervous.
I think our written voices determine what we write, just as much as preference. Or maybe they're one in the same?
I write women's fiction. I'm drawn to the journey, to the message and themes.
Mid-life crisis? That's the old fogey's name for people who still want to enjoy life!!!
I'm snickering as quietly as I can so I don't wake the young prince, but you've started something here, no? I don't think you are going through a mid-life crisis, you are simply in touch with your younger self. :)
I write...well, hmm...fiction. LOL My WIP is possibly considered chick lit...I really struggle with labeling my work as a genre. I'm also working on a mid grade novel-we'll see what happens. I tried picture books-which I enjoyed and it was challenging, but I can really get lost in the more grown up areas of writing.
Oh, adolescence has such an enormous formative effect on us, I think everybody revisits it all the time.
I often ask myself why I write and lately I have been thinking that it's only because I'm stubborn. Otherwise I would have abandoned the idea long ago.
